Is my donation tax-decuctable?
-Yes! Donations made to the Hoyt Foundation by check or via the Paddy Run for Boston Crowdrise page are 100% tax deductable. You'll be emailed a reciept, (or mailed one if you donate by check) which you should save for tax time. The Hoyt Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. I just started running, but I'm doing a 5k in two weeks. Are you still going to donate a dollar for running the race, even though I'm not a so-called "avid" runner?
-Absolutely! I'm really proud of you! Go for it! Set a goal for yourself at the race. If you meet or break it, I'll kick in the extra buck as well!
Why doesn't a run on my treadmill count!?
-Because it's too easy to walk into your climate-controlled living room or gym and tap out a few miles while watching Dancing with the Stars. I want you to get outside, smell the air, see the birds, meet your neighbors, and maybe feel a drop or two of rain once in a while. Running is freedom. Go out and enjoy it.
Why aren't you helping the bombing victims by raising money for the One Fund?
-This is something I deliberated over. The One Fund is a wonderful thing, a testament to the world's compassion. I contributed to it myself and at this point the fund has raised over 80 Million dollars. When it comes to anything that can be bought or paid for, the victims material needs are covered, both for now and the forseeable future. And rightfully so. Everything else that was taken from them....sadly, no amount of money can ever restore those things.
While I have high hopes for Paddy Runs for Boston, I'm not under the illusion that we're going to go bananas. What we raise here probably won't amount to even an hour's interest on 80 Million dollars. (Approx: $3,667 give or take) I want our little campaign to have the strongest effect it can possibly have and by supporting Team Hoyt, we'll get the most out of our efforts, help good people do good works, and stay connected to the spirit of the Boston Marathon.
How long will Paddy Runs for Boston keep going?
-Until the 2014 Boston Marathon, which will take place on Monday, April 21st.
